Team Leader Application

Being a Team Leader with the LEAD Program is a great opportunity to advance your leadership skills and help others to become leaders in their communities. Through your involvement, students will more meaningfully connect their academic experience to their overall leadership development.

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 
  • Weekly, attend Team Leader Meeting & Team Leader Office Hours (Mondays 1-4pm required, self-schedule 2 additional office hours each week)
  • Monthly, host a team meeting with your assigned team
  • Monthly, meet one on one with Advisor and report regarding student progress on your team
  • Monthly, review team member’s theory hours, leadership experience, and reflections
  • Assist in helping your team members find a mentor 
  • Meet individually twice a semester with each member of your team to talk about their goals and progress through the LEAD program
  • Serve as a peer mentor 
  • Prepare and present an approved leadership topic for the First Year workshop once per semester (Once in Fall, Once in Spring)
  • Serve as liaison between Student Leadership and Involvement & LEAD Student Participants
  • Connect students to campus resources and help navigate through solving problems resolving concerns
  • Have a positive attitude about leadership development, the LEAD program, and student development
  • Strive to improve self, LEAD program, and the team environment

Minimum requirements
  1. Ability to dedicate 5-8 hours every week to this program 
  2. Must attend required meetings, events, and trainings scheduled by the LEAD Program
  3. Successfully finished at least two semesters of the LEAD program or be on track to finish two-semesters by May 2024. 
  4. Must be a current UVU student, must not graduate before Fall 2025 semester
  5. Commit to participating as a Team Leader for a full academic year (fall and spring semesters) and fulfill responsibilities independently and as directed
  6. Consistently and actively use online communication tool Microsoft Teams for the LEAD program
  7. Must hold a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA
  8. Be enrolled as a full-time UVU student (12+ credit hours). This is required in order for you to receive the Team Leader Scholarship.
  9. Strong work ethic and dedication
  10. Desire to serve others
  11. Ability and desire to lead a team
  12. Strong interpersonal and communication skills: Ability to communicate effectively and in a timely manner between the Team and Advisor.
Team Leader Mandatory Event Attednance 
  • Utah Leadership Academy - May 15-17th, 2024 event at Westminister College in Sugar House, Utah. Lodging will be provided. 
  • Team Leader Retreat June 7-8, 2024 
  • LEAD Program Kick-Off  August 10, 2024
  • LEAD Program Kick Off August 26, 2024
  • Attend ALL SLI Leadership Lectures held 6-8pm in Center Stage on the following dates 

                          September 25, 2024

                          November 20, 2024

                          February 5, 2025

                          April 16, 2025

Team Leader Office Hours
Team Leaders office hours are Mondays from 1pm-4pm. These office hours are mandatory. We will be doing all of the Team Leader, trainings, workshops, etc during these office hours.

Priority is given to UVU Students who are pursuing their first Bachelor's level degree

Students are accepted based on the number of open positions, application responses, and observations made during the interview process. Students accepted into the program will be directly notified by the Program Director from the LEAD Program at Utah Valley University.
