From the event organizer:
We will have guest speakers in the morning discussing opioid/benzodiazepine abuse and overdose, domestic abuse, human trafficking, and suicide prevention. Each speaker has about a 50-minute slot and comes from various local Utah organizations specializing in community services towards these topics. The slot will include an overview of their topics (i.e. Utah and national statistics, signs and symptoms of abuse, risk factors, how to intervene) with mock cases at the end for large group discussion. Example case questions include: What are some red flags presented by this patient? Are you a mandatory reporter and if so, to what authorities? What do you say to this patient?
In the afternoon, there will be a mock simulation using standardized patients.
This event has the potential to include students from RMU physical therapy, RMU nurse practitioners, RMU SLPs, as well as Noorda COM students.
