Student Steering Application Fall 2023

The Director of Kummer Student Programs seeks the input of current and new Kummer Vanguard Scholars (KVS) to continue to shape the KVS program. If you are a Kummer Vanguard Scholar who seeks to be instrumental in building the future of the program, consider applying to be on the Student Steering Committee (SSC).

The KVS SSC will be comprised of current KVS students who are selected based upon KVS program involvement, major of study, campus involvement, and desire to affect change. At least 5 spots will be earmarked for the new incoming class of KVS students. The SSC will provide insight, feedback, and recommendations to the Director of Kummer Student Programs regarding the planning and implementation of the KVS program, KVS peer mentors, and Kummer Vanguard Scholars Day.

The SSC will be engaged in this process through regular meetings, networking, and additional experiences. Member commitment to the SSC will be for one regular semester and recruitment for a new SSC will be launched prior to the following semester.

Expectations
  • Meet with the Director of Kummer Student Programs every other week for an hour both fall and spring semesters· The meeting date/time will be finalized after the selection of the SSC has been made 
  • Meet with your assigned sub-committee in the off weeks of SSC meetings. Scheduled by the students of that sub-committee
  • Connect and network with area leaders, faculty, staff, alumni, and others who seek to be involved and bring value to the KVS program
  • Garner feedback and input from KVS students at large
  • Actively engage in communication both written and verbal

  • Exposure and involvement with strategic planning and program implementation processes
  • SSC members will receive apparel to wear at events to designate them as members of the SSC and some events will have food provided.
  • Serving on SSC can account for 2nd year KVS semester involvement, or for portions of the required involvement for 1st year KVS.
