Samuel Jordan is the President of the Baltimore Transit Equity Coalition, a resolute, community-led group. The Coalition's mission is to replace structural racism in public transit policy with meaningful change, aiming for equitable, reliable transit and greater environmental, social, and economic justice in the Baltimore region. The Coalition's anti-racist work emerged in response to Governor Hogan's decision to cancel the Red Line project in 2015, a decision seen as a quintessential example of structural racism in the region. This move prompted many of the original Red Line planning committee members to take action.

Previously, Mr. Jordan has been actively involved in community initiatives, serving as the Community Housing Program Director for Midtown-Edmondson Community Organization (M-ECO) and as Senior Advisor to the President of the Washington, DC-wide HUD-certified Resident Advisory Board (RAB).

His extensive experience includes organizing programs and collective actions, particularly in housing, healthcare, and transit equity, over the last twelve years. Mr. Jordon also currently serves as the Executive Director of the Innovative Housing Institute, which serves Baltimore’s housing-insecure population through sustainable housing initiatives serving racially and economically integrated communities.
Following the event, a light reception will be served.

About the President's Symposium: The President’s Symposium is an annual series focused on a topic selected by the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) President Bruce Jarrell, MD, FACS. This year’s topic is Near-Campus Vibrancy and focuses on how the UMB can positively contribute to near-campus vibrancy through the investment of resources and strategic initiatives.
