International scientists and scholars in the United States lead multifaceted lives despite challenges such as immigration and separation from social support systems. The distinct facets of the lives of international PhDs, beyond domain expertise and work ethics, deserve a spotlight.

In this session, Dr. Sonali Majumdar will focus on distinct strengths, that international graduate students and professionals develop through lived experiences, which are valuable for professional success in diverse careers. She will highlight how to leverage storytelling to identify, acknowledge and communicate such experiential strengths. This will inspire international scientists and scholars to broaden perceived personal and professional realm of possibilities and continue exercising the power of choice amid any constraints of circumstances.

This session is inspired by Sonali’s article on Inside Higher Ed on strengths of international PhDs.
