The Dowdy Multicultural Center (DMC) Peer Mentoring Program is here to support you.  
We are excited to match you with a student leader and connect you the larger WCU community through your first-year experience.

Overview
The Lawrence A. Dowdy Multicultural Center Peer Mentoring Program is dedicated to supporting WCU Students of Color through their first academic year. Students of Color* will learn about campus resources, establish a support network that includes students, faculty, and staff, and build habits for holistic success with the guidance of established student leaders and DMC staff.

*Students of Color include students who identify as : Alaskan Native, Asian American, Black, African American, Caribbean American, Desi American, Latinx, Native American, Hawaiian, Pacific Islander and Multiracial.*

As part of the Peer Mentoring Program, mentors and the DMC staff will guide you to:
-identify campus resources
-build a support network of staff, students, and faculty
-create goals for holistic wellness

Frequently Asked Questions

How does it work?
The Multicultural Mentoring Program will match you with a student leader mentor and 2 other mentees.  With the guidance of your mentor, you will attend various activities hosted by the DMC and campus resources.

You will receive an email regarding your match by:
Spring 2022
Monday, February 14


Fall 2021
Monday, September 13 contingent on having mentors available.
For extended deadline: Monday, September 27


What are the activities I will do?
You are asked to participate in the following activities:
  • 1 hour Mentoring meetings 2 times per month 
  • 1 Dowdy Multicultural Center sponsored event per month 
  • Programs, events, and personalized appointments hosted by campus resources led by students, staff, and faculty
  • Welcoming Induction event 
  • End of fall semester celebration 
  • End of year celebration 
What is the time commitment?
We ask that you allocate at least 4-5 hours per month to the Mentoring Program for the entirety of the academic year.  The more you are able to participate the more you will gain from the program.  See above to know the monthly commitment.

How will I be matched?
You will have the opportunity to indicate how you would like to be matched in this application.

How will I meet with my mentor?
You are asked to commit to meeting at least 2 hours per month with your mentor. You and your mentor will come up with a consistent schedule.
