When we look at menstruation through the lens of our current colonial, capitalist society, we often see pain, shame, discomfort, and disposability. Sanitary pads are 90% plastic, over a billion tampon applications end up in our landfills each year, and these materials can have a negative effect on both our bodies and planet, and, because menstruation is a taboo topic we might have a feeling of estrangement or shame from our bodies.

Decolonizing the body looks like unpacking the expectations and values we have around natural systems, bodies, and social rituals, to better understand how the denigration of women and nature are connected, and how we might find alternate ways to a positive, resilient, and sustainable natural cycle – in our heart, mind, and bodily experience.

This event will provide free, natural, and more environmentally & chemically friendly menstrual products as alternatives to the mainstream choices, and include time for learning and connection in a safe and fun space.
