On average, over 10% of Cornell students are registered with Student Disability Services (SDS), and that number increases every year. Yet the disability identity is not always considered on our campus. Accessibility and expecting students with this lived experience to join and engage with clubs, events, and activities is often an afterthought, rather than a foundational part of inclusive planning. The result? People who identify as having a disability or chronic health condition not always feeling welcome, included, or able to be their whole selves in campus organizations and activities, even if exclusion was not the intent. Join Sarah Bonawitz and Erin Sember-Chase from SDS to consider and discuss how to create community and activities with accessibility, equitable participation, and disability inclusion in mind.
Presented by Sarah Bonawitz, Assistant Director of Student Disability Services / Disability Access Consultant and Erin Sember-Chase, Assistant Director of Student Disability Services / Disability Access Consultant.
Session will be delivered via Zoom. Zoom autocaptions will be turned on and presentation slides will be made available. If you require other disability related accommodations in order to participate in the event, please contact Sarah at sb2545@cornell.edu.
