When you think of sustainability, do you think of seeds? Seeds are essential to our everyday lives, from the air we breathe to the food we eat. Reducing your carbon footprint can be as easy as planting a tree, or gardening at home. Nothing tastes better than homegrown herbs and you would be surprised at how easy it is to make an herb garden at home!

Join us in the Sustainability Hub for an afternoon where we D.I.Y. ourselves a windowsill herb garden! Using old, recycled books and seeds donated from the Seed Library, we will make simple basil seed starters. Soon enough, you’ll have endless fresh basil within reach, for free!

About the Seed Library

Seed libraries are places where individuals can “borrow” seeds to grow with the intention of harvesting and returning seeds at the end of the season. Seed libraries have multiple benefits including:

  1. Promoting biodiversity including preserving genetic diversity

  2. Providing community members with seeds to grow healthy food to supplement their diet

  3. Supporting local seed-savers and gardeners

  4. Encouraging increased engagement between the library and the community
