On Tuesday, November 28, the Adam Smith Society will be hosting a conversation with David Petraeus, retired four-star general, former director of the CIA, and partner in the global investment firm KKR. Interviewed by Professor Andrew Lo, General Petraeus will be discussing the themes in his recent book, Conflict: The Evolution of Warfare from 1945 to Ukraine, coauthored with Andrew Roberts. The event begins at 11:00 am in Wong Auditorium (E51-115) and will last approximately one hour. General Petraeus will be available to sign copies of his book after the event concludes.

David Petraeus
David Petraeus is a retired United States Army general and a prominent commentator on contemporary security issues, military developments, and global affairs, widely respected as a leading warrior intellectual. He graduated with distinction from the US Military Academy and earned a PhD from Princeton University. He served in the US Army for thirty-seven years, concluding his time in uniform with six consecutive commands as a general officer, five of which were in combat, including command of the Surge in Iraq, US Central Command, and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan. He then served as director of the CIA. He has held academic appointments at six universities and is a senior fellow and lecturer at Yale University. He is currently a partner at KKR and chairs the KKR Global Institute.
Andrew Lo
Andrew Lo is the Charles E. and Susan T. Harris Professor at the MIT Sloan School of Management, director of the MIT Laboratory for Financial Engineering, a principal investigator at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, and an affiliated faculty member of the MIT Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He has published numerous articles in finance and economics journals (see http://alo.mit.edu), and has authored several books including Adaptive Markets: Financial Evolution at the Speed of Thought, The Econometrics of Financial Markets, A Non-Random Walk Down Wall Street, Hedge Funds: An Analytic Perspective, and The Evolution of Technical Analysis. Lo received a B.A. in economics from Yale University in 1980 and an A.M. and Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University in 1984.
