Please join the Fletcher Russia and Eurasia Program, the Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life, and Amnesty International at Tufts University for a film screening of Navalny (2022), followed by a conversation with Yury Terekhov, Pavel Luzin, and Sergei Erofeev, experts on Russia's political landscape and opposition.

Navalny follows the man who survived an assassination attempt by poisoning with a lethal nerve agent in August 2020. During his months-long recovery, he makes shocking discoveries about the attempt on his life and decides to return home. The film won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature in 2023.

Pavel Luzin, Ph.D. in international relations (IMEMO, 2012), is a researcher of Russia’s foreign policy and defense, space policy, and global security issues. Luzin is a contributor to the Foreign Policy Research Institute (USA), the Jamestown Foundation (USA), and Riddle (Intersection Foundation, Lithuania). In 2017–2018, he was a consultant on armed forces, law enforcement agencies, and defense industry issues for Alexei Navalny’s presidential campaign. In 2016–2018, he was a consultant on Russia’s domestic politics for the “Nations in Transit” project at Freedom House (USA). In 2013–2014, Luzin was a research fellow at IMEMO (Russia). In 2013, he was an assistant to the editor-in-chief of the Security Index journal at PIR Center (Russia). Luzin was also a lecturer and senior lecturer at Perm State University (Russia) in 2010–2017, a senior lecturer at HSE (Perm campus, Russia) in 2011–2013, and a visiting assistant professor at HSE (Perm campus, Russia) in 2018–2019.

Yury Terekhov is a Visiting Scholar at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. He earned his Master of Arts degree in International Relations from the Jagiellonian University in Poland. With twelve years of professional experience in political and media management, he has worked with various notable figures in the Russian opposition, including Garry Kasparov, Alexei Navalny, and Mikhail Khodorkovsky. In 2022, he launched an initiative to promote the white-blue-white flag of the Russian anti-war protest movement. Yury is interested in researching anti-war grassroots resistance practices, democracy resilience, and nation-building.

Sergei Erofeev is currently a lecturer at Rutgers University in New Jersey. His research interests are in cultural theory and social change. Previously, Dr. Erofeev served as a Vice Rector for International Affairs at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow, the Dean of international programs at the European University at Saint Petersburg, and the Director of the Center for Sociology of Culture at Kazan Federal University in Russia. Sergei Erofeev’s current work is focused on developing a methodology to study “tectonic value shifts”, the culture of mafia state and state terrorism.
