Please join the Fletcher Eurasia Club for a lunch seminar with visiting scholar Andrei Yakovlev. The conversation will focus on the ruling elite in Russia and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and Western sanctions on the Russian economy. We encourage you to read his recent articles on Russia's "limited access order" and the development of global capitalism as well as his presentation on the variety of capitalism in Russia. The Eurasia Club weekly lunch seminar series engages with students, faculty, staff, and researchers to foster a better understanding of the region among members of the Fletcher community. Members of the wider Tufts community are also welcome to attend. Lunch will be served.

Visiting Scholar

Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies, Harvard University

Andrei Yakovlev is a senior researcher at the Institute for Industrial and Market Studies at HSE University (Moscow, Russia) and visiting scholar at Davis Center at Harvard University. He was awarded his Ph.D. in Economics at Moscow Lomonosov-University in 1992. His research interests include comparative studies in the political economy of development as well as industrial policy, public procurement, and bureaucracy with a focus on Russia. His papers were published in Comparative Political Studies, Post-Soviet Affairs, Europe-Asia Studies, Journal of Institutional Economics, International Journal of Emerging Markets, Eurasian Geography and Economics, Journal of Eurasian Studies, and other international journals. He worked as visiting researcher or visiting professor in Germany (with a Humboldt fellowship), Finland, and Italy. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the European Association for Comparative Economic Studies (EACES) since 2006, in 2015-2019 he was president of the Association of Russian Economic Think Tanks (ARETT), and in 2017 he was awarded Yegor Gaigar memorial prize in economics.
