Artists are continually put in situations where they must advocate for themselves and explain why their work has value. Advocating for oneself is further complicated by societal power imbalances, like racism, sexism, and transphobia, that manifest in their own unique way in the arts. How can we navigate these situations successfully, while also laying groundwork for change?

In this session Robin McGinness, a career coach and performer, and El Schoepf, a lapsed performer and social science researcher, will discuss the physical and psychological reactions we can have to negotiation, explore and explain organizations that support performers such as unions, and demonstrate methods for building confidence when advocating for yourself and your worth.

If you want to dig deeper, one-on-one coachings with El Schoepf are also available on Nov. 10 and 11. Sign up here!
