This workshop offers an introduction to aspects of student and instructor identity - including race, gender, ethnicity, and religion - and their role in the classroom. Participants will be invited to reflect on their own identities and where they come from, while also considering what their students bring to the learning environment. It helps to lay the groundwork for additional ITWs and ATWs like Gender in the classroom, Practicing Anti-Racist Pedagogy, and others.

Please note: Intermediate Teaching Workshops (ITWs) count toward the requirements for the CCTP. ITWs do not presuppose any previous engagement with the topic, but will draw on topics mentioned in the Fundamentals of Teaching/the CIRTL MOOC. For a refresher on key pedagogical terms you may have encountered in the Fundamentals or the CIRTL MOOC, please refer to our glossary.

This workshop will be held in person.
