Sri Lanka Crisis Teach-In

Sri Lanka is facing its worst economic downturn since its Independence in 1948. Due to years of political corruption and irresponsible financial policies, the details of which have been articulated by analysts such as Yolani Fernando of The Asia Foundation, the country's foreign reserves have been depleted. This has translated to a humanitarian crisis, with energy and public health being the most affected sectors. Currently, citizens face severe fuel shortages, 13-hour power outages, skyrocketing basic goods prices, and low medical supplies. While the present situation has been created by years of bad governance and poor economic policy, the politicians responsible still continue to suppress people's freedom of expression by resorting to declaring emergency measures and shutting down social media.
