Race, ethnicity, and culture are fundamental in shaping how we approach syllabus/policy sheet design, course materials, facilitation, and mentorship. This workshop offers participants ways to consider these forces from the top down, that is, at the level of course content and lesson planning across all fields and disciplines. We will discuss methods and best practices for cultivating an equitable and more inclusive course and learning environment, both as a Teaching Fellow and Acting Instructor. We will consider approaches to teaching content that directly engages with questions of race, ethnicity and culture as well as when these topics are present and relevant, but not directly addressed in the material or subject matter. Please note this workshop is complementary to "Race, Ethnicity, and Culture: Classroom Dynamics," scheduled on March 3rd. We encourage you to attend both workshops as they offer distinct, but interrelated approaches to this topic. This workshop fulfills the diversity and inclusion requirement for the CCTP.
