Do you want to improve your methods of eliciting and tracking participation from your students? Are you concerned with whether you assess participation in a fair and responsible manner? This workshop will consider how biases impact our assessments of student participation and explore concrete strategies to fairly evaluate participation for all types of students in the classroom. We will investigate strategies to enhance and evaluate class participation at all moments of the course - defining participation for your students on the first day, keeping track of participation throughout the semester, and using a student's participation in determining a final grade. Participants will come away from this workshop with concrete tools and ideas to improve the fairness and suitability of their participation grades. Please contact Angelica Clayon (angelica.clayton@yale.edu) and Matthew Ellis (matthew.w.ellis@yale.edu) with any additional questions or accessbility needs. This workshop will be held on zoom.
