The Ebony Ball is an annual end of calendar year celebration by the African American Society of Case Western Reserve University to celebrate the achievements and successes of Black students at CWRU. CWRU Black alumni, community leaders, graduates, undergraduates, and faculty are all invited to celebrate. The night showcases the organization's history of activism and social advocacy since its founding in 1968 with dinner, music performance, poetry, and an art exhibit from the Cleveland Institute of Art. We originally started as the "Afro-American Society" by a cohort of student leaders, including the late Stephanie Tubbs Jones, who would later become an influential Congresswoman for Ohio. This is the 50th annual celebration of Ebony Ball.
