In recognition of Black History Month, join CCEL for the Karamu House's production of “Red Summer” on Thursday, February 23! ! The Karamu House was founded in 1915 and is the oldest producing African American theatre in the U.S.. “Red Summer” portrays an event that affected at least 26 cities across the United States.  Racial tensions across the U.S. were exacerbated by the discharge of millions of military personnel back to their homes and domestic lives following the war’s end.  Competition for opportunities in postwar America combined with a radically changed social landscape placed Whites and Blacks in conflict, leading to tragic results. Read the full description here.

Content Warning: “Red Summer” contains strong language and scenes that are intended for a mature audience, only.

Participants will meet in front of the CCEL office (Tinkham Veale University Center #165, near the Bellflower Road entrance) promptly at 6:30 p.m. and travel together with CCEL Student Leaders in a CCEL van. Please ensure that you can attend before registering as CCEL will be paying in advance to cover the costs of the ticket.
