Want to learn how to navigate the challenges of reading and writing in STEM fields?

The Writing Resource Center and Kelvin Smith Library are excited to be offering a three-part series of workshops presented by faculty and staff who are experts in STEM communication. The workshop will cover topics such as how to make sense of complex scientific articles, ways to hone your arguments in scientific and engineering papers, and new methods for thinking about the representation of quantitative data. In addition, the series will help students rethink their reading and writing habits so that they can develop lasting strategies to support their own work at CWRU and beyond. This online series is open to all students, but will be especially useful to underrepresented student groups, upper-class undergraduates, and new graduate students in scientific and engineering fields.

Lead by Dr. Frank Ernst, Chair of the Materials Science and Engineering Department.

Dr Frank Ernst received his academic degrees from the University of Göttingen and the University of Stuttgart, Germany. Trained as a physicist with focus on physical metallurgy, he is now the chair of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Case. His research focus is on surface engineering of alloys and micro-characterization of materials. His current teaching interests are in materials science, mathematics, and scientific writing.
