Featuring Dr. H. Richard Milner IV

H. Richard Milner IV is Cornelius Vanderbilt Chair of Education in the Department of Teaching and Learning at Vanderbilt Peabody College of education and human development. He has secondary appointments in Peabody's Department of Leadership, Policy and Organizations and the Department of Sociology in Vanderbilt's College of Arts and Science.

Opportunity learning gaps can often result in students' lack of academic and social success in college. This is particularly true for black and brown students, Muslim students, those that are economically disadvantaged, those whose first language is not English as well as those with a learning disability. During this event, Milner will discuss how educators can address and respond to challenges students might face in order to optimize learning and development opportunities. The session is designed to support instructors in building principles, practices, and imperatives that can propel learning opportunities. With an explicit focus on disrupting inequity and advancing justice, this workshop focuses on pedagogical frameworks and tools necessary to cultivate justice and equity in college classrooms and broader institutions.
